The Privilege of Better Business Bureau Membership

Thanks to member support dollars, in 2006, the Better Business Bureau of Minnesota and North Dakota (BBB) answered 847,272 company inquiries and worked to resolve nearly 20,960 customer complaints. Through 1,071 ad review cases, we helped companies to advertise ethically.

  • Member Identification. According to a Gallup poll, 98% of Americans recognize and trust the Better Business Bureau. Being identified as a BBB member is one of your most valuable member benefits. By displaying your BBB plaque and decal, your business is identified as one that subscribes to the high ethical principles of the BBB.

  • Promoting your Membership. Many members are eligible to promote your membership through print, radio, and TV advertising. If you are unsure if you participate in this program, contact your member hotline at 651-699-0011.

  • Promoting your Membership Online. Instill consumer confidence in your products and services online by displaying this unique BBB seal of approval on your Web site.
that links to your BBBOnLine Reliability Report. This shows visitors that you agree to adhere to the BBB standards of online ethical conduct.

  • "Connections" Newsletter. Our quarterly member newsletter is packed with tips that could save your business time and money. We also let you know additional BBB offerings that could help you build your business.

  • Member Hotline. This exclusive member phone number is answered by a live person during business hours. Call: 651-699-0011 or 1-888-646-6222.

  • Member Status on Reliability Reports. Prospective customers count on BBB Company Reliability Reports more than 847,272 times each year to help make buying decisions. We tell every caller who checks your reputation that you are a BBB member. This gives you a substantial edge over your non-member competition.

  • Member Roster. Each day, consumers ask us for names of member firms. Although the BBB never recommends a company, we do give lists of our members by business categories. Consider the value to your company of your BBB member listing (and what it might cost you if weren't on the list!).

  • Member Status on BBB Web site. Member companies appear in our Membership Roster on our Web site at www.mnd.bbb.org, thus further instilling consumer trust in your business.

  • Member Employee Benefits. BBB membership is probably the least expensive benefit you can offer your employees. Employees can take advantage of all member benefits, including the member hotline. Plus, identifying your company as a BBB member instills confidence in current and prospective employees.

  • Arbitration and Mediation Services. Each member company receives one abitration or face-to-face mediation per year with their BBB membership. This benefit is also transferable to your company's employees.

  • Advertising Review. Member companies can have their ads reviewed by BBB staff - free of charge - before publication in order to ensure compliance with the BBB Code of Advertising regulations and guidelines.

  • Members-Only Web page. Your member ID number is your password to this Web page with valuable information accessible to members only.

Take advantage of these programs to get even more value from your BBB membership:
  • Membership Directory. We will be distributing 100,000 copies of the BBB member directory to members and area retailers. In addition to your free listing, you will have additional opportunities for visibility by advertising in the directory.

  • E-lerts. Let us know your E-mail address, and we'll send you brief, informative e-mails twice a month that could save you time and money. Last year, we alerted members to numerous scams aimed at businesses throughout Minnesota and North Dakota, provided information on cutting energy costs for your business, and much more. Call your member hotline: 651-699-0011, or e-mail ask@mnd.bbb.org to sign up.

  • Member Orientations. Are offered on a quarterly basis. Take advantage of this opportunity to learn how to make the most of you membership. Join us for an orientation and networking breakfast. Call your member hotline at 651-699-0011 to reserve your seat!

  • Sponsorship Opportunities. The BBB offers our members exclusive opportunities to gain visibility by sponsoring events. Call your membership hotline at 651-699-0011 for more information.

The BBB Foundation.

The BBB Foundation is the charitable educational component of the BBB. Donations to the Foundation support:

  • LifeSmarts. Those of us who learned through the school of hard knocks can appreciate the importance of learning in the classroom about how to be a smart consumer. The BBB brings LifeSmarts, a fun learning program for teens in grades 9 to 12, to Minnesota high schools.

  • Volunteer Speakers Bureau. The BBB enlists the help of volunteers to educate our community on consumer issues. We work with populations who are frequently the target of scams, such as senior citizens and high school students.

  • Educational Materials. As the marketplace continues to change, the BBB continues to develop materials designed to give consumers and businesses the tools they need to make smart buying decisions. Your support of the Foundation helps us to keep our educational materials up-to-date and free to the public.
